Registration Open – Elections and Audit Preparation and Internal Controls

Registration is now open for the following NDSBMCP classes:

  • Elections – Amy De Kok

Amy De Kok joined NDSBA’s staff as Legal Counsel in the Fall of 2017. Prior to joining NDSBA, Amy was an attorney and shareholder with the law firm of Fredrikson & Byron, P.A., a position she held since 2010. Amy’s practice focused on presenting and advising school districts throughout the state of North Dakota on a wide variety of issues including contract negotiations, teacher termination/discharge, employment, school board policy interpretation and application, school facility construction and improvement, and bond referendum procedures.  Amy has recently drafted multiple guidance resources for the NDSBA on school elections and hosted a webinar to assist districts through the school elections process.

  • Audit Preparation and Internal Controls – Will Swanson

Will Swanson is the Director of Accounting at Bismarck Public Schools.  Swanson is a certified public accountant (CPA).  Prior to being employed with the school, he worked at a public accounting firm, Brady Martz, as an audit manager.  In that job he specialized in overseeing audits of governmental entities, including several school districts in the state.

These classes are being offered to both current and graduate students. They will be held online from July 15 – September 15, 2020. Registered students will be sent instructions on how to access the course materials by July 15. Class assignments are due by September 15 unless otherwise noted.

Students retaking a class for continuing education credit will receive a discounted rate and can earn up to 2.5 credits. To receive credit, students will need to submit a paragraph to the Program Director, Rebecca Duben, at rebecca.duben@ndsba.org on what they learned from retaking the class. Students will be given six months to view the class recording(s) and complete the writing assignment. They do not need to complete the class assignment.

Payment can be made via credit card or check. Mail payment to North Dakota School Business Manager Certification Program, P.O. Box 7128, Bismarck, ND 58507-7128.  All course fees are due prior to the course start date unless the student makes alternative arrangements with the Program Director.
